Tragedy strikes a member of the Colorado Thunderbird family

Last Wednesday, January 20, tragedy struck a member of the Colorado Thunderbird family.  Sam Sedillo, the older brother of Kyle Robison #15, a defenseman on the U16 team, was seriously injured while serving our country in Afghanistan.  Sam is a member of the US Marine Corp assigned as a Combat Engineer.  His responsibility is to locate and disarm IEDs (Individual Explosive Device) which are basically homemade bombs that are widely deployed to injure coalition forces.  During a mission last Wednesday, Sam and his team encountered several IEDs in a location, one of which detonated.  Sam's injuries are severe and resulted in the loss of his foot but thankfully he will survive his injuries.  Sam was evacuated to Germany for stabilization and is currently en route to Bethesda, MD where he will undergo 6-8 months of rehabilitation for his injuries.  Sam grew up in the Fort Collins area and pursued his love for hockey playing for the Mountain States Renegades organization.  He later moved to the Arvada area and played both hockey and football at Pomona High School.  Being a Marine was a lifelong dream for Sam and he understood and accepted the risks of going to war to serve his country.  Sam told his family in the last few days that "I understand why I was there and the importance of what I was fighting for in Afghanistan."  Sam loves hockey and is Kyle's #1 fan.  Sam, we are grateful for your service and the Colorado Thunderbirds are your #1 fan.  We wish you a speedy recovery and hope that you are back watching Kyle play very soon.  If you would like to send Sam a personal message you may email him at: kenrobisonfrf@gmail.com
