Colorado Thunderbirds Announce Player Advancement

2010-06-25

The Colorado Thunderbirds are pleased to announce the following accomplishments.

The Thunderbirds are very happy for these two players and want to wish them all the best!

Josiah Didier (1993 defenseman), an assistant captain, for the 2010 National Champion Colorado Thunderbird U16 Tier 1 team, has accepted a full scholarship to play for the University of Denver starting in the 2012-2013 season.  Josiah will be playing for Cedar Rapids of the USHL in the upcoming season.  Josiah will be joining another Thunderbird player, Daniel Doremus, at the University of Denver.  Daniel committed to the Pioneers this past March.

Gavin Stoick (1994 forward), a power forward for the 2010 National Champion Colorado Thunderbird U16 Tier 1 team has been offered a spot to play for the USHL's Clark Cup Champion, Green Bay Gamblers, for the 2010-2011 season.  Gavin was invited to USA Hockey's NTDP "40" Man Camp this past March and was also a selected in the first round of the USHL Futures Draft in May.  Gavin will be joining two former Thunderbird players Max Hartner and Grant Arnold next season.  Congrats to Max and Grant on winning the championship with Green Bay.

2009-2010 Review......The Thunderbirds continue to raise the bar for what Tier 1 hockey is all about.  Player development and advancement are why these young men sacrifice so much of their time and energy.  The Thunderbirds sent their U18, U16, U14 and U12 teams to the National Tournament this past April by sweeping the Rocky Mountain District Championships in Phoenix, Arizona in March.  The Tbirds went an unprecedented 18-0 in the district championships.  This past season the Thunderbirds won the U16 National Championship, nine players were selected in the USHL Draft (Futures and Main Entry), three players will be playing in the USHL next season, eight players (U18 team) have signed tenders with teams from the NAHL, two players have accepted scholarships to play for the University of Denver starting in the 2012-2013 season, one player has accepted an offer to play for the NTDP in Ann Arbor, four players were invited to the NTDP "40" Man Camp, one U14 player was selected in the WHL Bantam Draft, fifty-two Tbirds were selected to participate in USA Hockey's District Festivals.  Twenty of these tbird players advanced out of the district festivals to USA Hockey's National Festivals this summer.
