Colorado Thunderbird alumnus Payton Nelson has committed to play NCAA Division-I hockey for the Denver Pioneers!
Payton Nelson TBird commits to Denver

Nelson played two full seasons with the Colorado Thunderbird organization, starting as a 13U player in 2017 and returning in 2021 as an 16U after moving from back from the Chicago Mission organization. Payton found his scoring touch as a 16U, totaling 39 goals and 92 points in just short of 60 games.

That success led to parts of two seasons in the USHL with Muskegon and Des Moines, followed by a short stop in the North American Hockey League with Minnesota. He played 51 games in the BCHL with Salmon Arm, where TBirds Landon Smith and Evan Anderson played their junior hockey as well, totaling 17 points this year.

Congratulations Payton! We can’t wait to see you back in the Mile High City playing for your hometown program.
