Former Thunderbird Aidan Thompson (’02) Signs NHL Contract with Chicago Blackhawks
Colorado Thunderbird alumnus Aidan Thompson (‘02) has signed a 3-year entry-level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League.
Aidan played parts of two seasons at the 16U level within the Thunderbird organization, starting in 2017. In 51 total games with the TBirds, Thompson scored 14 goals and added 31 assists for a total of 45 points before departing to the USHL’s Lincoln Stars after a year with Berkshire School. From Lincoln after a point-per-game career in 117 USHL games, Aidan Thompson added to the long line of former Thunderbirds to attend the NCAA’s winningest program in his hometown Denver Pioneers.
Thompson’s 3-year Denver Pioneer concluded this season in the Frozen Four, after he recorded career highs during his junior year by registering 21 goals and 34 assists while playing in all 44 games. He finished second in the NCAA in scoring with 55 points. His career totals at the NCAA Division I level are 42-75-117 in 120 career games. Aidan’s final year at DU he led as an assistant captain and was nominated for the Hobey Baker Award, handed annually to the nation’s top collegiate hockey player.
Thompson was selected at 90th overall in the 3rd Round of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks and will report to the team’s AHL affiliate in Rockford for the remainder of the season. Congratulations Aidan!
